SONADI CHARITABLE TRUST IS AN ANIMAL WELFARE ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO PROVIDING CARE TO ABANDONED & SICK ANIMALS AND PERFORMING ANIMAL BIRTH CONTROL OPERATIONS
Sonadi is recognized by the Animal Welfare Board of India; Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India and works under the aegis of Municipal Corporation of Delhi in performing Animal Birth Control operations.
Mrs. Vandana Sengupta, the guiding force behind Sonadi is the recipient of Venu Menon Animal Allies Award for 2004. She helped set up the Sonadi shelter cum hospital in 2001 at Najafgarh. She worked as a social worker at Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Centre for 18 years before setting up Sonadi.
The shelter currently has a ‘live-in’ population of approx. 300 animals and 400 ABC animals per month. She also has at least 25-30 animals living at her house in Chittaranjan Park. At 69 years old, she treats the animals like her own children. They have names like Robin, Ding Dong, Goldie, Husmukh, Max, Chidiya, Meow, Casper, New Moon. Though she has help, she personally tends to the lot and never gets tired of it.
Sonadi is run almost entirely on the basis of personal donations from animal lovers. A skeletal but dedicated staff serves the shelter. Doctors and interns visiting the shelter provide free and voluntary medical service at Sonadi.
